most of you have heard by now that our family is expecting a new little monkey, sometime in mid January. This was planned, and we are thrilled! the kids are also super excited, and love to try to help come up with names- like Rex or crocodile if its a boy and Mulan or Pocahontas for a girl.
Most of you also know that after Zackery was born we were told that we should not have anymore babies. We consulted specialists and the Lord and decided to go ahead. This is considered a high risk pregnancy, we will be watched very closely. Here whats going on (best i can explain it, you can always google it but there is not a lot of info.) I have what is called ABO incompatibility. what that is that my blood type is O- and all three of my kids are A+. I have a very large amount of anti-A antibodies in my blood, which cross the placenta and attack babies blood cells, causing anemia and after birth, jaundice. Assuming this baby also has blood type A, he/she is at risk for developing severe anemia in the womb. Luckily this is something they can watch for with ultrasounds, so we will be getting regular views of monkey #4. We are also at a higher risk of premature birth, due to the fact that my body may decide it no longer wants this antigen inside. assuming we can get to a live birth, we also face what Zackery had, again, Hemolitic disease of the newborn, so we will be taking no chances and delivering at Swedish Hospital in Seattle where they have a top level NICU. All of this is on the assumption that baby has blood type A, which we don't know. we are not sure if we will do testing to find out or not. we haven't met with the Maternal fetal specialist yet. it is a fairly invasive procedure that we are not sure we want to risk, because all the other test are non-invasive.
Anyway, Mike and I feel very good about the whole thing and have faith that it will all go well. we believe in the medical professionals and their skills, and mostly we believe in our Loving Heavenly Father who sent this baby to us. we don't know what the outcome will be but, we have put this to the Lord and know he is watching over us.
Thank you all for your support as we, in the words of a perinatologist we consulted "attempt to climb Everest"
